Introduction

I've been wanting to start a blog to document our progress in renovating our home for several months, and now that things have calmed down some, I'm going to get the ball rolling.

We purchased this home late 2011, and took posession on New Years Eve.  :)

The house is a 55 year old Ranch style house. It was a 3 bedroom one floor ranch for about a decade, and the owners had the original builder add a second floor, changing the main floor layout (taking out a bedroom, adding a foyer and stairs where it used to be, and increasing the size of the livingroom), and adding 3 bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs.

The house had great bones, a good layout, but oh man was it a horrific mess of decor and flith.

The owner only ever used the first floor so the basement and second floor hadn't been touched in years. The beautiful oak hardwood was covered in glued down underpad and green wool carpet. There was wallpaper or awful paint on every surface.

The basement was a mix of terrible carpet, terrible wood panelling, and terrible wallpaper.

The wallpaper was the worst part of all. Multiple layers on just about every surface, including ceilings. If a room wasn't papered you can count on the walls, trim and celining all being painted the same colour.

Luckily, we were able to see past this, and we purchased this house for the potential, amazing lot, and beautiful neighbourhood. It was a commitment on our part to put in the time and labour to make the place livable, and I'm proud of our progess so far and I'm going to use this blog to post progress on a room by room basis as we make it.

I hope you enjoy our work and please feel free to make suggestions or comments!
